YOUR RISK(S) WITH UNLICENSED REPAIR SHOP
Consumers sometimes are unaware of the rights they give up when going to an unlicensed shop. They often lose the help from the Secretary of State’s office when treated unfairly or overcharged. Written warranties are invalid because the shop is already breaking the law. Your vehicle and belongings are at risk: most insurance carriers will NOT cover ANY losses, or may seek reimbursement if a claim is processed and paid (which may be investigated as insurance fraud), when the vehicle is repaired at an unlicensed repair shop (an insurance carrier wants to make sure that all local, state and federal laws have been adhered to when a claim is being made).
There has never been proof provided that an unlicensed repair shop was able to file any form of an insurance claim when theft and fire has occurred…and they do happen!
If you went to an unlicensed repair facility, you may be able to be reimbursed by having the Secretary of State's Office investigate your complaint. Click the link below to file that complaint.
